Map
to Abbey Station Getting Your Bearings There are several interesting things to keep in mind when navigating the Quad Cities. First, as the name suggests, the Quad Cities are composed of four cities: Bettendorf and Davenport (in Iowa) and Moline and Rock Island (in Illinois). However, the term Quad Cities is used to describe an area which stretches beyond these four cities, into Pleasant Valley, DeWitt, Eldridge, and Riverdale (in Iowa) and East Moline, Silvis, and Milan (in Illinois). Second, although the Quad Cities are separated by city and state borders (and the mighty Mississippi, too!), the community is rather cohesive: people think nothing of living in one city, shopping in another, and working in still another. Quad Citians are undaunted by the river, crossing it readily as if passing over a large interstate. Finally, although the Mississippi generally runs from north to south, in the Quad Cities, the river actually runs from east to west. This means that, in the Quad Cities, Iowa is actually north of Illinois. |
